With celebrities like Rihanna, Jayma Mays, Julianne Moore, and Hayley Williams sporting different versions of red hair, it’s hard not to want to try it out too! Here are a few healthy options to achieve the edgy-red look you’ve always dreamed of!


  • If you’re unsure about fully committing to red hair and are looking to get a red tint without using hair dye, an effective option is going for some natural red highlights. According to, the way to achieve this is by mixing two cups of Jamaican sorrel (dried or fresh), two cups of water and two tablespoons of honey in a small saucepan. Then, let the water boil and allow the sorrel to soak for two to four hours. By straining the liquid, stirring in the honey and adding one tablespoon of cinnamon, you are creating the perfect mixture to pour all over your hair to create beautiful red highlights- after you shampoo of course! Wrap your hair with a cap and leave the mixture in your hair for at least sixty minutes before rinsing out.
  • To achieve some burgundy highlights, another suggestion is to use beets. Mix beets, half a tablespoon of water, and one cup of conditioner. Create a liquid out of this mixture by using a juicer or food processor. Shampoo your hair before application, then rub the mixture in your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in plastic to allow this method to work effectively- and leave in for three to four hours or more, depending on how deep and rich of a color you desire!
