Styling hair without using heat can be tricky. Hot tools come in handy when you wake up with a bad hair day, but like we all already know they are damaging to hair. Today we have a few tricks that you should try out that will help you when you want the look of straight hair but don't feel like using your straightener. If you are someone who uses hot tools on a regular basis you may find it hard to stop but since it is summer it's the perfect time to try! Since it is a lot warmer out you probably don't want to wear your hair down anyways so try out some of these tricks and put your hot tools away for this season!
Comb your hair instead of using a blow dryer. The heat from a blow dryer can eventually make your hair brittle and dry if you are constantly using it. Instead of spending an hour blowing out your hair try just using a comb! When you get out of the shower pat your hair dry with a towel and then comb out any tangles. Keep combing periodically until your hair is fully dry. If you are consistently combing it will help to straighten your hair and reduce the amount of wave.
Rinse your hair with cold water. Since it is getting really hot out this trick shouldn't be too hard! After washing your hair with your favorite shampoo and conditioner rinse your hair with cold water. The colder the water the shinier your hair will be! By doing this you will also notice less frizz in your hair, overall making your hair appear a lot straighter.
Apply a milk and honey hair mask. Different hair masks can help with different problems your hair might be having. This particular hair mask will help straighten your hair and tame any curls you may have! Start by mixing 1 cup of thick milk with 1 tablespoon of honey. Apply the mask throughout your hair and leave it in for an hour. After just wash your hair like you normally would, we also suggest using a straightening shampoo and conditioner this will also help!
Section your hair off with soft hair bands before going to sleep. Before going to bed take some time to put your hair into two low pig tails. We suggest using creaseless hair bands or softer hair bands, this will ensure that you don't wake up with any awkward creases in your hair. This will tame your hair while you sleep, so if you're a rough sleeper and tend to wake up with crazy hair this trick will prevent any frizz!
These tricks won't give you naturally straight hair but they will help in controlling messy or frizzy hair overall making your hair a lot smoother!

Nothing is more frustrating than dealing with summer humidity. You can spend hours styling your hair but once you walk outside the frizz is inescapable. In the summer, frizzy hair is most commonly caused by humidity, but during the winter season the frizz your hair might develop is caused by static. Either way we have discovered 5 easy treatments that you can use to prevent the unfortunate side effects of humidity and static! Keep reading to get prepared for those not so fun humid days!
Coconut oil: In previous posts we have discussed the benefits that coconut oil can have not only in the kitchen but on your skin and hair as well! Coconut oil is extremely hydrating and it's also a popular scent especially in the summer time! This treatment involves just applying some coconut oil to your hair, easy right? The oil works like a hair serum adding a lot of moisture so you want to avoid getting any in your roots. Focus mainly on your ends or wherever your hair feels and looks the most dry. You will immediately notice the shine in your hair and the smell will be irresistible!
Apple cider vinegar: This DIY involves no mess or mixing all you need is apple cider vinegar and water (if you don't like the smell of vinegar.) The acidity of apple cider vinegar will help to smooth frizzy hair and also give a healthy shine! This easy one step process can be achieved while you're in the shower. After you have washed and rinsed your hair with a shampoo, pour the apple cider vinegar all over your hair. You want the vinegar to sit for at least 30 seconds before rinsing it out. We reccommend using cool water and then following up with any conditioner!
Avocado and olive oil: Avocado has several health benefits and also hydrating benefits which will work wonders for your hair! You have probably heard of/used hair masks that have avocado and that's because it is a good kind of fatty acid that will help to tame any frizz! To make this mask for your hair all you'll need to do is mash up 1 avocado in a bowl, than add in just a splash of olive oil which is also very hydrating! Whip the mixture together and cover your hair after you have washed with shampoo. Leave the mask on your hair for about 30 minutes and then follow up with a rinse and conditioner! Using a conditioner may help to get rid of any bad scent and it will also make your hair extra smooth!
Egg and olive oil: Eggs are not only a nutritious meal to have for breakfast, they are also naturally moisturizing for your hair! The fats and proteins found in egg yolk and the enzymes that kill bacteria in egg whites will work together to get rid of any frizz your hair has! Start by whisking one raw egg with a spoonful of olive oil, the olive oil will help to lock the moisture in your hair! We reccommend applying the mixture before shampooing and conditioning. Let the mixture absorb for about 30 minutes before rinsing and washing!
Carbonated water: Whenever you feel like you're starting to get sick the first thing you should do is chug a big glass of water! Keeping hydrated is very important especially in the summer and that is why a carbonated water rinse is perfect for your hair as well! The low pH level of carbonated water will reduce any frizz just like apple cider vinegar (minus the funky smell.) So another alternative to getting rid of frizz is rinsing your hair with carbonated water after you have washed with shampoo and conditioner!

Getting highlights professionally done at a salon can not only be expensive but super damaging to your hair. It's officially summer time and not only do we want sun-kissed skin but hair too! Today we have a few DIY natural hair highlighters that will cause almost no damage to your hair and your wallet! Keep reading to find out about these all-natural color enhancers that will keep your color looking shiny and bright!
Lemon juice is a very common highlighter that will work perfectly in the summer! All you have to do is spray the mixture in your hair before tanning out by the pool for a few hours, when you go back inside your hair will look better than ever! We read that when the citric acid in the lemon juice heats up, your hair cuticles open and lifts out the pigment! Not only does this remedy work but it is so easy to prepare! Start with squeezing some fresh lemon into a bottle and then dilute it with water, you want to use 3 times the amount of lemon juice. All you have to do next is spray the mixture throughout your hair and have a relaxing day by the pool or beach!
Chamomile tea is another hair lightener that will develop slower than lemon juice which is better for anyone who is a brunette! Just brew up two cups of chamomile tea, one for your hair the other to sip on! Once it has cooled you can jump into the shower and rinse your hair with the tea. Follow that up with your regular shampoo and conditioner and you will gradually notice a change in your hair color!
Honey is not only a natural sweetener it's also a natural alternative to lightening your hair! Honey can also be deeply conditioning so if you already have damaged hair this might help! Honey contains peroxide which is an effective lightener when mixed with distilled water. If you choose to use this remedy your hair will look lighter, feel softer, and smell delicious!
This might sound shocking but beer is another ingredient you can use to lighten your hair for the summer! The key is to rinse your hair with a light beer. The B vitamins and proteins that are found in beer will also help to repair any damage your hair may already have! Make sure that you wash your hair after applying the beer and you are good to go!
Make sure that you are keeping up with any of these natural lighteners to see the best results!

Whether you just got a blowout at your favorite salon or did it yourself, you want it to last for as many days as possible! We want to share with you some tips that will help your great hair day turn into a great hair week! Try out any of these tips and enjoy your blowout for a couple more days!
Preparation starts before bed this might sound strange but the type of pillowcase that you sleep on matters! Invest in a satin pillowcase because unlike cotton pillowcases they won't absorb the moisture from your hair. If you are sleeping on a satin pillowcase your blowout will stay shiny and smooth which is key in making a good hair day last! You also want to avoid sleeping with your hair down. A lot of women will leave their hair down in hopes that it will look the exact same when they wake up. Unfortunately if you are tossing and turning in your sleep you are going to wake up with some crazy hair! Instead try putting your hair up into a loose bun on the top of your head and secure with a creaseless hair tie (we mentioned these in our Friday Favorites!) This will ensure that you still have volume in your hair when you wake up the next day!
Before getting into the shower twist your hair back into a clip. By twisting your hair you create a barrier for the hairs underneath, protecting moisture. If you own a shower cap or thick headband you might also want to wear either one, this will also protect your hair from getting showered on!
If you feel like your blowout is starting to look a little greasy don't panic! Dry shampoo is your solution to any oily roots or even flatness! Using a dry shampoo will add texture and volume to your hair reviving your blowout and making it look as if you just walked out of the salon! Section off your hair and mist the product underneath your hair focusing mainly on your roots!
These next tips depend on your hair type. If you are someone who has naturally oily hair then using dry shampoo will help to soak up excess oil and give your blowout the volume and lift that it needs. If you have frizzy hair then you want to focus on serums and other moisturizing products that will help smooth out your hair. If you wake up the next morning and your hair looks like a frizzy mess try applying a product such as Moroccan Oil to the ends of your hair!
Don't touch! After you get a blowout the temptation to touch it every five seconds is hard to resist. If you want your blowout to last without it getting too greasy then you need to keep your hands off! Try your hardest to touch your hair as little as possible throughout the day this will prevent any oil from your hands getting in your hair! When you are constantly touching your hair it can cause frizz and even breakage so make sure you don't especially if you want your blow out to last!

Recently we have noticed that there are several different hairbrushes being sold in stores. Choosing the right hairbrush is difficult if you don't know the benefits of each type. Today we want to help anyone who gets overwhelmed in stores when they see a million brushes and don't know which one to buy! Keep reading to learn which brush you should be purchasing!

You can also use this brush when you want to add any volume to your crown!
The Round Brush: Round brushes are perfect to use when you want extra volume and body. If you have gotten a blowout professionally done in the past you may have noticed that they always use this type of brush. Round brushes come in a variety of sizes, if you want the look of tigher curls choose a smaller barrel, if you want a straight but voluminous blowout purchase the larger barrel. Purchasing a teasing brush that has a point-ended handle will also allow you to section your hair perfectly which is a total plus! If you are someone who has fine, fragile or damaged hair you might want to put your teasing brush away. Teasing your hair will just add more breakage so work on revitalizing your hair before using one of these!
Wide Tooth Comb: If you have just gotten out of the pool, ocean, shower, etc. then you want to be using a wide tooth comb to tame your wet hair. Wet hair is probably the most difficult to manage, your hair is also more likely to break when you brush it while it's wet. That is why it is very important to be as gentle as you can on your wet hair. Using a wide tooth comb and starting from the bottom working your way up will cause little damage to your hair!
Detangling Brush: You can easily recognize this brush because it is sort of shaped like an egg. The detangling brush is designed so that removing knots and tangles is much easier and a lot less painful! If your hair is knotty using this brush will prevent less damage and breakage. Most of these brushes can be used on wet and dry hair which makes it a perfect beach bag essential! The detangling brush is perfect to bring with you when going to the beach or pool this summer!
The Rat Tail Comb: The rat tail comb also has a point-ended handle which can be used to section your hair with precision giving you the perfect part! You want to use this for backcobming which can add volume to your hair. If you don't own the teasing brush this comb is the alternative to use!
Choosing the right hairbrush is easy when you know your hair type and style! Try out any of these brushes/combs and let us know what you think!

Have you ever wondered why your hair gets so knotty? Brushing your hair is always more time consuming when you have tangles and not to mention it’s pretty painful to. Today we want to discuss why your hair might be getting so knotty all the time. We also want to share a few tips that could help anyone who has a constant battle with their hair!
There are a lot of reason why your hair could constantly be getting knotty it all depends on hair texture, how many times you are brushing, the healthiness of your hair, and exposure to wind. Ever notice in the wintertime your hair tends to get extremely knotty? Well those knots aren’t from a bad hair day they are caused from the strong wind and weather. We recently learned that your hair is more likely to tangle if your hair is:
thick and curly
long and fine
dry and damaged
not being combed frequently
If you are someone who unfortunately has constant tangles then here are a few tips that will make maintaining your hair much easier and less of a hassle!
Make sure you are not skipping conditioner. Conditioning your hair will add moisture leaving your hair much smoother and a lot easier to comb. If you are someone who doesn’t use conditioner often you may realize that your hair has a lot more tangles after you shower. We suggest that you always use conditioner on the ends of your hair because this will reduce the amount of knots!
You want to make sure that you are using the right type of comb. Using a brush causes a lot more damage to the hair. Although it might take less time to just use a brush, a wide tooth comb actually removes any knots more efficiently. It also decreases the amount of damage that you may be causing to your hair, which in this case is a total plus! Make sure you start at the bottom of the knot working your way up slowly and gently.
Make sure you don’t avoid combing your hair. If you skip one day of detangling your hair the knots are just going to build up. We recommend that you are combing your hair at least 2-3 times a day. To help reduce knots when coming out of the shower make sure you comb your hair before hand this will make detangling your hair after a lot easier!
Waking up to a head full of knots and tangles is not only annoying but can be pretty time consuming. When you go to sleep your hair can actually get pretty knotty! If you wear your hair in a braid at night this will reduce the amount of knots being formed. Doing this will also prevent any damage from happening to your hair at night.
Stay away from products that contain alcohol. Products that include alcohol tend to dry out your hair, which will increase the amount of knots and tangles. Try using products that are natural and sulfate/alcohol free. Also look for products that are made for detangling hair this will assist you when it is time to comb!

Spent two hours curling your hair and you couldn't show it off because the curls didn't make it out the door? This is a problem a lot of women tend to have when it comes to curling their hair. Whether you have naturally straight hair or just bad luck nothing is more frustrating than spending hours styling your hair for it to only look good for about ten minutes. Well it is your lucky day because we have done some research and found a few ways for you and your curls to make it to the party!
Curls last much longer when you have second or third day hair. The best trick to keeping your curls looking perfect throughout the night is having dirty hair. When you don't wash your hair the night before curling it, the natural oils that built up throughout that day give your hair texture and make it moldable. You can still shower just throw on a shower cap and you're good to go. If your scalp looks greasy the next day, use a dry shampoo or baby powder and leave the rest of your hair dirty. Your hair will not only look better but it will hold better!
When you deep condition your hair it makes it much harder to style. Deep conditioning treatments tend to weigh hair down which is not good when you're about to curl it. So if you have an event planned try not to use any intense treatments that week, use lightweight conditioners and less products overall. You want your hair to be dirty but not too dirty where your hair looks flat.
A lot of women use the wrong products and that has a huge effect on whether or not their hair stays throughout the night/day. Make sure that you are using a lightweight styling lotion that will give your hair the right amount of texture. Heat protecting sprays are important to use as well especially since you will be using heat on your hair. Using this product will prevent less damage which is a great way to keep your hair staying healthy! You want to also be using the right hairspray because no one wants the look of stiff and crunchy curls. Instead use a light hairspray like the Elnett Volume Extra Strong Hold. Misting a product like this on your curls will ensure that they stay all night without making them hard.
This trick is for women who have naturally straight hair. When you are curling your hair instead of just hairspraying each curl as you go try the post-iron pin method. Once you have released your hair from the iron pin the curl to your head. Do this with every curl and then hairspray them into place. While they set do your makeup, brush your teeth or just relax! After a few minutes or so carefully unpin your curls and comb through them with your fingers. This tip really changes the way your curls look and how they hold!
If you know in advance that you are going to be curling your hair try putting braids in the night before. Depending on how thin or thick your hair is do however many braids you think you'll need. This takes about ten seconds and then all you have to do is hop on into bed. That morning, after you take your braids out, you will be left with a lot of texture and wave. This type of hair style will change the way your hair looks when you curl it overall making it last a lot longer!

Once summer rolls around all we can think about is coconuts! Whether you're topping your frozen yogurt off with it or sipping on some by the pool, coconuts seem to be the trend of each summer! You all know how delicious coconut tastes but what you may not know is that this healthy snack usually used when cooking has great benefits for your skin and hair! Unlike other products that you may use on your hair or skin, coconut oil is free of any chemicals and 100 percent natural! We want to share all of the different ways that you can use coconut oil throughout the summer and hopefully you will become obsessed too!
Some of you may already be using a serum on the ends of your hair. Doing this can freshen up any hair style giving the look of smoother and shinier hair! A natural alternative to hair serums is coconut oil! This might sound funny since coconut is usually something we just eat or drink, but coconut oil gives your hair a silky texture and a lot of shine! Coconut oil can either be applied directly to the ends of your hair or as a hair mask. Just simply heat up 3-5 tablespoons of oil in the microwave. While it's cooling off make sure you have washed you hair, patting it down dry with a towel afterward. Apply the coconut oil to your hair just like you would with any other hair mask, then wrap your hair up in a shower cap. You are not going to wash the mask out so hop on into bed and let the oil absorb into your hair while you sleep! When you wake up your hair will look super glossy and slick. Coconut oil is not only natural but it is super cheap compared to other hair products, I mean you probably already own it in your kitchen!
Now that your hair is looking better than ever it's time to put the coconut oil to use again! Coconut oil works as a great moisturizer for your face and body! Using this as a moisturizer works better than any product you would buy in a store. It is a lot more hydrating and soaks deep into the layers of your skin strengthening the tissue underneath. Applying coconut oil to your skin will get rid of any dead skin cells leaving your skin feeling soft and smooth! Where you apply the oil is your personal preference, you can use it on your entire face, under your eyes, on your lips, etc. When applying it on the rest of your body we recommend mixing it with your favorite body lotion for extra hydrating skin! Coconut oil won't leave your skin feeling greasy or oily because it absorbs quickly into your skin giving you the perfect summer glow!
Ever have trouble taking your makeup off at night? Makeup remover wipes work okay but we have noticed it doesn't completely take off all makeup. Coconut oil works gently on the skin to remove any and all makeup! Removing your makeup at night will ensure that you don't break out or have greasy skin, so instead of using a wipe try coconut oil! Just use your finger to lightly rub downward on your eyes and eyelashes. If you have a hard time removing any mascara or eyeliner coconut oil will be your miracle! Also, if you leave just a little of the oil on your eyelashes it can help them to grow which is a total plus!
Coconut oil not only has several beauty benefits but it's a healthier alternative to using butter! Coconut oil is a saturated fat so it is great to use in the kitchen when you are baking! Although saturated fats don't have the same effects on good cholesterol, they do help with several brain and body functions! When you are using coconut oil for cooking make sure that it states on the bottle that it can stand hight-heat!

Summer is right around the corner and the temptation to eat as much ice cream as you can is hard to resist! Treating yourself to chocolate ice cream once in a while isn't a crime, but you also want to make sure that you aren't slacking on maintaining a healthy diet. Eating healthy foods is especially important during the summer season because of all the negative effects the sun has on your hair. Hair, in warmer weather, tends to lose a lot of the nutrients that it needs to keep healthy. Escaping the sun and pool is nearly impossible to do when it's 90 degrees outside, so another way to bring life back into your hair is by eating healthy! We want to share with you a list of healthy foods that not only taste delicious but will revitalize your hair during summer!
First, you want to make sure that you are eating the right amount of vitamins and minerals because they are going to keep your hair looking shiny, lustrous and most importantly strong!
Hair is made up of protein so it is crucial to include some in your meals throughout the day. Not eating enough protein will result in hair loss and dryness. Protein will also give you energy which will keep you moving on those busy summer days! Some foods we recommend that have a great source of protein include, eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, legumes, nuts, and several dairy products. Quinoa, chick peas and lentils are only a few of the foods that are rich in protein and extremely healthy! Quinoa also contains amino acids that will strengthen and repair your hair while also promoting healthy growth! Eating chick peas will help to prevent your hair from graying while strengthening it as well! Lentils not only consist of protein but iron and vitamin C, which will provide nutrients for your body and your hair!
Iron is not only essential for your body, but will cause hair loss if you don't eat enough of it. If your iron levels are low you may experience anaemia, which interrupts the nutrient supply needed for your hair follicles which will affect the growth. Foods that provide iron include red meat, chicken and fish. If you happen to be vegetarian you can get your source of iron by consuming lentils, spinach, broccoli, kale, etc. Eating kale will promote steady hair growth and thickness. Broccoli is also a delicious vegetable to eat and a great source of iron!
Vitamin C assists in the absorption of iron, so eating foods that are high in Vitamin C with foods that contain iron is crucial for your diet. Vitamin C also helps produce collagen which strengthens the capillaries that supply your hair shafts. Foods that are high in Vitamin C include blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi, oranges, papaya, strawberries, sweet potatoes, etc. Blueberries are great to snack on in the summer or you can incorporate them into your breakfast! They stimulate hair growth and help to maintain healthy hair!
Omega-3 fatty acids are fats that your body can't produce on its own so you need to incorporate foods high in Omega-3 into your meals. Omega-3 is found in the cells that line your scalp, they supply oils that will keep your scalp and hair hydrated which is ideal on those hot summer days. Consume foods such as salmon, herring, sardines, trout, avocado, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, etc. Pumpkin seeds are packed with Omega-3, eating a handful of these or adding them to a salad will help to thicken your hair!
Vitamin A is needed for your body to create sebum, an oily substance made by your hairs sebaceous glands that forms a natural conditioner for a healthy scalp. The lack of sebum will cause a dry and itchy scalp! Carrots, pumpkins, sweet potatoes, yams, kimchi, etc. all have a great source of Vitamin A. Eating yams and also kimchi will prevent dandruff or a flaky scalp. Vitamin A is important to integrate into your diets this summer because it will keep your scalp from becoming itchy which the sun might already be doing if you aren't protecting it properly!
Zinc and Selenium will also prevent a dry itchy scalp or hair loss! Eating fortified cereals, wholegrains, oysters, beef, eggs, etc. will give your body the source of zinc that it needs!
The sun can do some damage to your hair and skin especially in the summer, eating foods that are full of Vitamin E will protect your hair from any damage! A lot of nuts consist of Vitamin E such as pumpkin seeds, snacking on these buy the pool or at work is a healthy way to stay full and protect your hair!
Biotin is a water-soluble B Vitamin. Not having enough biotin in your diet will lead to brittle hair or even hair loss. Wholegrains, liver, egg yolk, soy flour, and yeast are all foods that have biotin. It is very easy to incorperate any of these when preparing a meal. Eggs in the morning for breakfast are a great way to start off any day and give you the biotin that your hair needs!
