Start using sulfate free and color-treated hair shampoo and conditioner.1 Several stores carry products that are made for color treated hair such as the John Frieda brand, which comes in various shades. You don't have to stop at just shampoo and conditioner, also try using color treated hair products like the Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold with UV filter for Color-Treated Hair. 
  5. When you're outside in the sun try wearing a hat, this will help to block your hair from the UV lights. If wearing a hat isn't really your style start using hair products that have SPF, this will protect your hair from being damaged by the sun and prevent the color from changing/fading!

It seems as though in every advertisement we see, the model has ultra shiny hair. While it would be ridiculous to not credit that partially to photo editing, it can still make us envious...and desperately desire glossy hair! Here are a few easy tips to avoid every-day hair damage and help you get the shiny hair you have always wanted:

  • Take cooler showers! Don’t freeze yourself but, if you’re used to taking steaming-hot showers, it’d definitely be beneficial for you if you turned it down a notch. According to health.com, heat splinters the surface of the hair and makes it seem uneven and dull. Rinsing your hair with cooler water for only ten seconds can help you achieve shinier hair!

  • Don’t rub your head with a towel after getting out of the shower! This causes breakage and damage to the wet-hair shaft. Instead, after getting out of the shower, you should slowly  brush your hair with a wide-toothed comb. That is the least damaging after-shower hair care method!1

  • Hair dry properly! When blow drying, remember to direct the nozzle down the hair shaft. Then, afterwards, use the “cool” setting on your blow dryer to finish off your hair. Just like rinsing with cold water at the end of a shower, this will help you achieve shinier hair!2

  • Use a silicone flat iron! This might not be something we think about often, but metallic and ceramic flat irons cause a lot more damage to hair than silicone flat irons do, due to the fact that they are not as effective and take much longer to use.

If you desperately desire to look younger or are simply looking to rejuvenate your skin, here are a few of our favorite  healthy and natural skin care recipes that will keep you from having to run to the store:

 

  • For the first recipe, you will need ¼ cup almond oil, 2 tablespoons coconut oil, 2 tablespoons beeswax, ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil and 1 tablespoon shea butter. Put these ingredients in jar. Then, place the jar in a simmering pot of water until all of the ingredients have melted. The almond oil has softening properties, the virgin coconut oil and vitamin E are included for their antioxidants, and beeswax and shea butter are GREAT anti inflammatories. You’ll see the effects this product has on your skin in no time!1

  • The second recipe we have to share with you is a bit more simple. Its only ingredient: honey! After you’ve cleansed your face, rub a tablespoon of honey all over it. After letting it sit for ten minutes, rinse it off with warm water. This will draw out skin impurities!2

  • This recipe is incredibly simple as well! Brew a cup of white tea on medium heat. When the tea is warm, place a face cloth into it and then press the cloth over your eyes. This will help open up pores and deflate the bags under your eyes.

  • For our last recipe, you will need 1 tablespoons of cocoa butter, ½ tablespoon of dark organic honey, 2 drops of sesame oil and 2 drops of apricot oil. Mix these ingredients together until a nice, creamy texture is achieved and say goodbye to wrinkles!3

We all take preventative measures to protect our hair against damage during the day, but what about when we’re sleeping at night? Sometimes the way we sleep can damage our hair and we don’t even realize it! Here are a few tips to avoid hair damage while you’re sleeping:

Dry Shampoo is a product known for convenience and there’s nothing more convenient than being able to make it in your own home. Here are a few DIY Dry Shampoo recipes that are worth checking out:

 

  • Cocoa Powder Dry Shampoo! Take two tablespoons of cocoa powder, two tablespoons of arrowroot or cornstarch, and 5 drops of essential oils. After mixing these things together,  apply them to your hair with an old makeup brush. This works best on darker hair!1

  • Cornstarch Dry Shampoo! This recipe leaves out the cocoa powder, since it is meant for lighter hair. You’ll need ¼ cup of arrowroot or cornstarch and 5 drops of essential oils. After mixing these ingredients together, you will have the perfect dry shampoo for blonde hair!

  • Oatmeal and Baking Soda Dry Shampoo! Mix one cup of ground oatmeal and one cup of baking soda together. This is an easy fix good for any hair color!2

  • Cheesecloth Dry Shampoo! Well, using a cheesecloth to rid your hair of excess oil doesn’t necessarily count as using a dry shampoo, but it works just the same! Take a cheesecloth, wrap it around a wide bristle brush and then brush your hair. The cheesecloth will remove any unwanted dirt and oil from your hair!
