With celebrities like Rihanna, Jayma Mays, Julianne Moore, and Hayley Williams sporting different versions of red hair, it’s hard not to want to try it out too! Here are a few healthy options to achieve the edgy-red look you’ve always dreamed of!
If you’re unsure about fully committing to red hair and are looking to get a red tint without using hair dye, an effective option is going for some natural red highlights. According to hubpages.com, the way to achieve this is by mixing two cups of Jamaican sorrel (dried or fresh), two cups of water and two tablespoons of honey in a small saucepan. Then, let the water boil and allow the sorrel to soak for two to four hours. By straining the liquid, stirring in the honey and adding one tablespoon of cinnamon, you are creating the perfect mixture to pour all over your hair to create beautiful red highlights- after you shampoo of course! Wrap your hair with a cap and leave the mixture in your hair for at least sixty minutes before rinsing out.
To achieve some burgundy highlights, another suggestion is to use beets. Mix beets, half a tablespoon of water, and one cup of conditioner. Create a liquid out of this mixture by using a juicer or food processor. Shampoo your hair before application, then rub the mixture in your hair from root to tip. Wrap your hair in plastic to allow this method to work effectively- and leave in for three to four hours or more, depending on how deep and rich of a color you desire!
Ready to go all in? I think I might be. Love Your Color offers a non-permanent Auburn dye that lasts 6-12 shampoos! Including a revitalizing conditioner and excluding ammonia, peroxide or PPD, Love Your Color is a healthy and effective option to achieve a beautiful red tint! It’s easy- takes twenty minutes and comes in one bottle (there’s no mixing!).For a shiny and healthy-looking option, Love Your Color can be purchased here.

If you don’t have the time to make a trip to the salon or drug store, don’t fret. Summer is the perfect time to try some at-home highlighting methods! Check out a few of these natural everyday products that you just may already have in your house!
Let’s begin with the obvious, lemons. Using lemon juice to highlight your hair is the oldest trick in the book- and it actually works! By cutting up a few lemons and squeezing them on your hair before you go out into the sun, you will achieve beautiful and natural-looking highlights effortlessly!
OrganicAuthority.com has a few highlighting tricks for us, too. The first is to use Chamomile Tea. It will make your hair a slightly lighter shade and it even works for brunettes! Brew your tea- and don’t forget to let it cool before applying it to the pieces of hair you’d like to highlight. Use a spray bottle for application and grab a towel and lay out in the sun to let the tea do its magic!
Apparently, honey isn’t just for bees. Honey can also give you HONEY-colored locks! You can either apply honey directly to wet hair and let it sit for two hours OR you could mix honey, lemon and warm water in a spray bottle and apply it to your wet hair. Not only will this method help bring out your natural highlights, it will also leave your hair looking glossy and full of volume!
According to hubpages.com, olive oil can also help highlight your hair. By adding two tablespoons of olive oil and a tablespoon of lemon juice to a cup of water, you can create the perfect mixture to not only highlight, but also to help moisturize your hair. Rub this mixture into your hair and leave it on for thirty minutes before using a mild shampoo to rinse out extra olive oil.
You ever think of rubbing ground cinnamon into your scalp? By mixing three tablespoons of ground cinnamon into hair conditioner, you can create a paste that can help create beautiful highlights. After applying the paste and brushing through your hair with a wide-toothed comb, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave your hair like that for several hours. After doing this- remember to rinse your hair well!
If you want a quick and easy change, trying one of these methods of natural highlighting might be the key! And, really, is there even a better way to highlight your hair other than squeezing a few lemons on your scalp and then lying outside by the pool? I think not!

With Summer officially approaching, hair care is something to take into EXTRA consideration. Summer can be very rough on our hair! To prevent damage and get the gorgeous locks you see in fashion magazines, check out a few tips to deal with thinning hair:
Nioxin.com has four helpful suggestions for us, one of them being- start eating more amino acids! You may be suffering from thinning hair due to the lack of biotin, iron, protein and zinc in your diet.
Try to avoid chlorine-filled pools! Chlorine, metals and minerals can be left on the scalp and hair and may lead to thinning.
Check your medication! Medication including hormones can also lead to hair loss.
Don’t yank your hair out! Be gentle with your hair, it is one of your most prized possessions. Avoid hairstyles that pull at it too tightly and avoid damaging heat-styling tools.
Chill out! Stress is the most obvious cause of thinning hair. This can be solved with a nice drink by the pool, or even a relaxing scalp massage! Prevention.com states that rubbing your scalp with coconut oil in a circular motion right before you shampoo can increase circulation in the scalp and help your hair grow!
