Surviving Second-Day Hair
June 12, 2015
The key to keeping your hair fresh after coloring is making sure that it is staying in a healthy condition. This means not using hot tools and only washing it 2-3 times a week. A lot of women will wash their hair every day because they feel it will be oily and greasy if they don't. The truth is not washing your hair as frequently is better! We have come up with some tips and tricks that will help you to embrace your second-day hair! Don't spend your time this summer constantly blow drying and styling your hair. Try out a few of these tricks and share with us what you think!
- Before going to bed throw your hair up in a messy bun. By doing this you are adding volume to your hair without having to use a ton of product the next day. Putting your hair in a bun before going to sleep will create body to your hair so the next day you aren't making your hair any greaiser by applying a ton of hairspray!
**Side Note: If you wake up the next morning and feel that there are creases in your hair from the bun then try taking a round brush and blow dry pulling away from your hair. Using a blow dryer in this situation is better than trying to flat iron the creases out. A blow dryer will work better and be somewhat less damaging.
- Use a dry shampoo because it absorbs any extra oil or grease. Dry shampoo is the best cure for greasy second-day hair. Using this product will make it look as if you did actually wash your hair the night before. A great product to try is the Batiste Dry Shampoo. This product comes in a variety of colors so that if you have blonde, brown, or red hair it will still work the same! This product blends nicely with any hair color and is great to use when you haven't washed your hair in a few days.
- When you curl your second-day hair it actually holds better! The greases built up in your hair will help the curl to stay and last all day long. Again, you won't even have to use hairspray because the oils in your hair are actually doing a better job! Take a curling wand and quickly curl the ends of your hair. Hold the wand on your hair for about five seconds and repeat this step through out the rest of your hair.
- Accessorize! Head bands and clips are like jewelry for your hair! Accessories work best with second-day hair and requires using no heat! If your feel as if your hair is way to greasy just throw a head band or hat on. Fedoras are super cute to wear especially in the summer time. Wear whatever you feel more comfortable and confident in, this is the time to add some style to your hair!
- If you already curled your hair and don't feel like touching it up the next day this trick is great! Try spraying some Moroccan oil hairspray through out your hair that night. Then twist your hair into two buns and secure with bobby pins. When you wake up you will have frizz-free curls without having to use heat or spend any time styling!
- Before going to bed braid your hair into 6 seperate braids. Start your braid a few inches down from the root to create the right amount of texture. Spray the braids with leave-in conditioner until the strands are damp enough to sleep on. When you wake up all you have to do is spray a little dry shampoo onto your roots and you'll be left with fresh texture waves!
- If you know in advance that you are not going to be washing your hair for a few days use your hair products sparingly beforehand. Stay away from using serums or hairspray these products look great when you first style your hair but they will add extra grease and oil. If you avoid using a lot of product on your hair the oil build up won't be too bad the second or third day.
- Avoid touching your hair through out the day! When you are constantly running your fingers through your hair the grease and oil found on your hands will end up in your hair making it look greasier! If you find this to be difficult, try putting your hair in a top knot or pony tail. If it's out of your face you won't be tempted to touch it as much.
- Set your blow dryer to cool and blow dry your second-day hair. Doing this will absorb some of the oil out of your hair while also adding volume and body.
- Use dryer sheets on your hair! This might sound weird but just like how dryer sheets keep your clothes static free, they also maintain the frizz you might have with second-day hair. Attach just a few dryer sheets to your hair with bobby pins before going to bed. When you wake up your hair will be less frizzy and static free!
